AoL is a cornerstone of academic quality and a critical component of the accreditation process. However, effectively documenting and communicating AoL findings can be challenging, especially when balancing detail with clarity and stakeholder engagement. This session will focus on best practices in creating AoL documentation that not only meets °®Âþµº standards but also tells a compelling story of your institution’s educational impact.

Attendees will explore techniques for transforming AoL data into narratives that highlight strengths, address areas for improvement, and promote transparency. The presenter will discuss methods for crafting documentation that resonates with stakeholders, building support for the AoL process and ensuring continuous program enhancement. Attendees will learn how to present various data to different stakeholders and the outcomes from it.

In this interactive session, participants will work together to advance and expand their thinking about the curriculum mapping process and the uses of curriculum maps beyond mere placement of course-embedded measures. Participants will consider the utility of accurate curriculum maps as opposed to ideal curriculum maps. Further, they will explore additional applications for curriculum maps in the assessment and curriculum management processes as well as in other areas of strategic importance including leveraging emerging technologies in courses and identifying curriculum coverage of the school’s designated areas of societal impact. Specific examples of advanced course alignment matrices for gathering curriculum mapping information will be provided as will examples of the resulting curriculum maps capturing information beyond the depth of learning objective coverage and the placement of course embedded assessment measures.

This presentation shares initial findings on navigating radical change in accreditation. Research indicates that centralized, highly engaged faculty and staff systems are crucial for creating sustainable accreditation environments. Schools with active collaboration foster situated learning, where improvement happens through hands-on participation. In contrast, low engagement can lead to isolation, burnout, and conflicts over faculty qualifications, challenging long-term sustainability.

Participants will explore the Community of Practice (COP) model as an effective framework for involving faculty and staff in AoL and the accreditation process. COPs provide a structure for implementing continuous improvement by integrating specific skills, strategies, and a growth-oriented mindset essential for building a sustainable AOL system. This session will equip participants with tools to develop COPs that strengthen commitment to continuous improvement and create sustainable practices within their institutions.

This session will offer two perspectives on AoL, the perspective of an AoL lead and faculty lead. First, the AoL lead will share their journey, and the frustrations encountered in attempting to engage faculty—outlining the challenges in communicating AoL’s value and complexity. Then, the faculty lead will present their viewpoint, highlighting the confusion and hesitation faculty members feel when faced with AoL requirements, despite understanding their importance.

Presenters will showcase a digital workbook solution, demonstrating how a digital workbook is structured. Presenters will walk the participants through the workbook’s key features, including trait-level visualization and the circular link to curriculum mapping, illustrating how each feature provided clarity and made AoL tasks accessible for faculty. They will reflect on why the digital workbook solution succeeded where others had not, sharing insights into the role of visual tools, collaborative development, and the creation of a sustainable, competence-building AoL process.

The session will consider the growing trend in higher education institutions in implementing authentic assessment practices within their taught provision. The session seeks to explore this trend in the context of maturing assurance of learning systems to question whether existing competencies would strategically and operationally fit with such authentic assessment instruments. The discussion will acknowledge the advantages of authentic assessment in a challenging academic integrity landscape alongside the strengths of this approach for implementing durable skills complementary to both direct and indirect AoL measurements. A series of scenarios will be posed where both AoL data and authentic assessment implementation can be used as drivers for continuous development. This provides an opportunity for attendees to reflect on not only their current AoL system but also to question how this would align with a more authentic assessment strategy moving into the future.
